NLE:
Non Linear Editing
What
is nonlinear editing? One
major advantage of editing video on a PC is not having
the restrictions imposed by tape. Non-linear editing
involves being able to access any part of the video (for
editing) without having to scroll through the entire
footage. Digital
video can be processed on an NLE, or non-linear editing
station or PC. A non linear system involves, as the name
suggests, the ability to edit a sequence
of video
anywhere in the film without having to scroll through to
the editing point. It is the equivalent of a CD or an LP
where any track can be played directly unlike the
cassette tape when one needs to forward to the relevant
point. A
non linear editing device
is one built exclusively to edit video and audio. These
import from analog as well as digital sources - and, if
using DV (Digital Video) the audio is automatically
imported with the video.
