Why then
should I go for your £1,500 computer
instead of the £399 one? |
|
|
|
The more
expensive PCs have more features like CD ReWriters, DVD drives,
larger and better monitors, more storage space on the hard disks
etc. First decide on what you want to do with the PC, and what
software you want to run on it. It's a boring way of doing things
BUT it is a logical and smart approach.

Will your PCs
run the latest games? |
|
|
|
Hardware
requirements for games PCs seem to be the most misunderstood of
the lot. It is a myth that "serious" programs like MS
Office have more demanding hardware requirements than games.
Office programs work on pretty much any standard PC you get in the
market today. But most of the latest games won't. Older games and DOS
based games do not require a lot of RAM and a very fast graphics
card but the latest games most certainly do. If you intend to play
a lot of games on your PC go for the maximum RAM, fastest 3D
graphics card, fastest processor, and largest hard disk you can
afford. Of course when playing games a larger monitor, better
soundcard and powerful surround sound speakers may be other
options you want to consider.

What about the
operating system? Do I get Windows®
with your PCs? |
|
|
|
Most
of our
models have Windows® included in the price.
If a PC is priced without Windows we will tell you clearly on the
product page that Windows is an optional extra. Why do we not
supply Windows with every PC? Most of our PCs go to customers who already have Windows and
don't really want to pay for it again. However, if you don't have
a copy, or need a copy supplied, we are happy to do so for a small
fee. Nobody gives you Windows for free. They just build it into
the price of the PC and don't give you a choice. We do. Pay for it
only if you need it.
(buying
PCs without operating system subject to this).

Do I need to
have Windows with the PC? |
|
|
|
You do need to
have an operating system with the PC and Windows®98, ME
& XP are the operating systems of choice for home and small office use.
There are other options like Linux, which is pretty much a free
program. However, Linux is more difficult to setup and use and is
not recommended for the faint hearted. While several of our
customers have bought our PCs and installed Linux on them we do
not guarantee compatibility of our systems with the Linux/Unix
families of operating systems.

So do I need
Windows 98SE, Windows ME or Windows XP? |
|
|
|
For home PCs the recommended operating systems are ME (Millennium Edition)
& 98SE (Second Edition). XP is the latest version of Windows. What does Windows
XP/ME offer over Windows 98SE? Erm, you can check the Microsoft site
for that, and they will advise going for the latest version. We stock
all three.

|
Isn't Windows
2000/Windows XP Professional what
I want? |
|
|
|
These are operating systems more suited to a large business than to a home
PC. Use it if you already have a lot of experience with NT.
Windows 2000 is a later version of Windows NT. For
home use stick with Windows 98SE, Windows ME or XP.
We do offer the
option of Windows NT 4.0 with the latest service pack, Windows
2000 and Windows XP Professional. Please speak to one of our sales advisors if
you need a business operating system on your PC.
