   Warranty & Support

All our standard PCs come with:

1. FIVE year warranty cover on labour, the first twelve months also includes cover on parts (some machines may have longer hardware warranty periods)

2. Unlimited lifetime free upgrades where you pay only for the part and the labour is free of charge.

3. Unlimited free online support via this website and other websites in our group of companies.

We offer a wide range of warranty upgrades, but you will never be hard sold these. Please request information on warranty upgrades if you require a higher level of protection.

The PC industry has developed a reputation for poor support and dismal after sales service. Many companies provide support on premium rate lines, make you hold for hours, and in many cases not even answer the phones! When you do get through it's very rarely to someone capable of solving your problem.

Poweroid and the Best Price Computers group provide a refreshing change to after sales. We are committed to providing a distinctly superior service. Our standard national rate numbers are open even when most others are shut. The expert engineers who build the review PCs that win us so many awards are the same ones who answer support calls. We also have 24 hour support via links to driver downloads, most common support questions, anti-virus protection, PC crashing etc. In addition to our "out of hours" phone support, our 24/7 on-line support is open 365 days a year.

First appearances are not what they seem. Think an On-site is always better than a Return to Base warranty? That a 2 year warranty is always better than a 1 year warranty? Not necessarily! Read more>>

Promises, promises! With the power of the internet you can now see what customers actually say about a company's service. On this page we have some comments from customers and links to third party sites/forums where customers like you share their experiences. Check these out BEFORE you buy a PC anywhere.

 Common Warranty Terms

The common terms used in describing warranties, and what they usually mean:

OS or On-Site: Where your computer is repaired at the place where you've registered it i.e. the home or work address you filled in on your warranty card. On-Site warranties usually require you to fill in this warranty card and post it within 14 days of receiving the goods. When the call out engineer is unable to repair your PC your warranty is then usually treated as a Collect & Return.

Collect & Return: Where the manufacturer collects the PC at his expense, repairs it and sends it back to you, again at his expense.

RTB or Return to Base: You will need to return the computer to the place you bought if from in order for them to fix it. All  transport would be at your expense.

Parts and labour: You pay neither for the parts nor for the labour involved in fixing the fault.

Labour: You will not pay for labour spent in fixing the fault but will need to pay for any parts that need to be replaced.

 What warranty will I get?

On-site warranty (optional on some models): With this warranty if you have a hardware problem an engineer will visit you within one weekday, within the period of the warranty. Most problems can be fixed immediately. Occasionally, where a replacement part is not immediately available, he may need to return to complete the job. You do not pay to ship the computer to us for any repair. You do not pay him for his time or for any parts he fits. After the first year and for years 2, 3, 4 and 5 after purchase of a computer you still do not pay for any labour in the fixing of your computer, just the parts. Provided you return the it within our standard terms and conditions labour on repairing a hardware fault is free of charge.

Standard Warranties: Unless you opt for any extra warranty cover all standard computers are supplied with a five year warranty on labour including the first twelve months on parts and labour. This means that for the first five years if you develop any hardware fault with the computer we will not charge for the labour to fix it. During the first 12 months you will not pay for any parts either. All standard warranties are Return to Base.

What does right type of warranty mean?

Different customers have different level of warranty requirements. A business might need a high priority repair service and may be willing to pay extra for it.

All warranties cost money. The longer the warranty period the more it costs. We recognise that some of our customers may need only a one year parts and labour warranty (which is automatically included with all computers bought from us). Others may require a two or three year warranty, on-Site warranty, or a warranty that covers not just the computer itself but the entire network. We have a range of warranty options to cover most needs. Please call and we'll be glad to explain the ones not covered here.

How much do warranty upgrades cost?

The first level of warranty upgrade costs only 7% of the cost of your computer (or £49, whichever is more). This upgrades your warranty on parts and labour from RTB to On-Site for the first year. Cost on the other options is subject to change. Please call us on (44) 0870 22 00 444 and we'll be happy to quote you on extended warranty options.

What happens if my PC arrives not working?
Your computer has arrived and it is not working! This is highly unlikely. However, if a computer has left here properly tested, and in full working order but arrived malfunctioning you will be glad to know that you are covered for transit damage. Irrespective of your warranty we'll collect the computer from you and issue you with a replacement while we process the transit damage claim. That's right - you don't need to wait for a claim to come through from the insurance. On receipt of the damaged computer we attempt to ship back replacements within 24 hours. This is of course is subject to our standard terms and conditions and assumes, for example, that you haven't broken warranty seals on items that are not user serviceable. Always make sure you sign for any delivery as "received unchecked" or, if the box has the slightest damage, as "received damaged". That helps us make a claim on the couriers.

What happens if my PC develops a fault?

Several months down the line and your computer has stopped working?

Whatever the hardware fault, and within the on-site warranty period, an engineer will visit you at the registered address where the computer is used and he will attempt to fix the fault in the first visit. Occasionally he may need to return to complete the job. Your first step will be to call the number on your warranty card. Please have your receipt number ready and a full description of the symptoms.

With the Return to Base warranty your computer is covered for all hardware faults and manufacturing defects. You will need to return the computer to us to effect the repair. Please use your invoice number as the Returns Number but please first call and we'll tell you what we need to have together with the PC (drivers, admin passwords you've set etc). Please have your receipt number ready and a full description of the symptoms.

We have one of the quickest turn around time for repairs. Most computers that come in for repair leave from here within one hour of arriving.

Please note: Support on software is the responsibility of the software manufacturer except for OEM products which come with no free support at all. Please see our exposé on software. We regret that we cannot support software not purchased from us. We'll be happy to send you a full list of what items are actually covered under the hardware warranty. Please call us on (44) 0870 22 00 444 to request the list.
