How Low Prices Can be Achieved, Really Low Prices on Computers,

How we do our great prices

There is no secret to how we can offer our customers the best possible deals. We expose on this page what actually constitutes the price of a computer, and how we get them to you at such incredible prices.

It's amazing how many computer manufacturers do not recognise a simple truth: Stick to quality components and your costs actually go down rather than up. It's true. With quality components you'll have less wastage, lower levels of faulty parts and less time wasted trying to locate faults. Overall you actually save money by staying with quality components.

A company that spends £500,000 a month on glossy advertisements in computer magazines has to recover those costs somewhere. We don't have 40 pages of glossy advertisements in every computer magazine;  we don't pay the hundreds of thousands of pounds that the big glossy adverts cost. What we save on advertisements we pass on to the customer. But then if we don't advertise much, how do we sell?

More than half our business comes through references and recommendations from existing customers. There is no advertisement better than a satisfied customer. It works for us… And because we rely on recommendations for future business we have a commitment to ensure you are delighted with any purchase from us.

There is economy in bulk buying. When we buy 100 monitors we get them at a much better price than companies buying just 5 or 10 at a time. Buying in bulk also saves on shipping and administrative costs. What we save we pass on to you, the customer. Further, because we are bulk buyers we get special terms from manufacturers and distributors who wish to shift a large quantity of stock in a short time. They'd rather call us and shift a whole container in one sale than split that container up and sell it to several smaller buyers over several weeks.

We save on overheads. Large computer superstores pay massive
amounts in rents and staff. Those costs have to be recovered and they do it by working on higher "gross margins". We do not have large retail premises. We do not run expensive high street shops. We are based on an Industrial Estate at much cheaper rents for office AND warehouse space. And because we sell mainly by mail we don't pay for a large number of showroom staff milling around looking bored.

We save on purchases by paying for stock up front. Companies buying their stock on credit terms pay more. Most computer firms buy their stock on 30-day terms. Obviously a manufacturer selling to them on 30-day terms has to wait a whole month before getting payment. For this facility there is usually a small charge. It could be up to 3% of the total value of that purchase. We save on those costs by paying COD (Cash/Cheque on delivery) on our purchases.

Do you already have Windows? Then why pay for it again? Some computer retailers advertise big bundles of "free" software. Beware: There is no such thing as FREE Windows. See our exposé on this scam. What the advertiser is not saying is that the price of Windows has been included in the price of the machine. If you already have Windows we'll install it on any new machine purchased from us ...and the installation service is FREE.

At any given time certain components make economic sense over other components. When we work out specifications and prices for pre-built PCs on this site we do so only after extensive research. The combinations we choose are chosen because they comprise the BEST value for money deals in the entire country.

If a particular processor is over priced we find the next one up that is better value. Most companies book their supply months in advance and end up paying extra for the privilege. (They buy on the "contract" market rather than the "spot" market". We don't. We constantly monitor prices and stock of a wide range of components in the market and move quickly to ensure our customers get the best deal.

We do not believe in bundling ANY unnecessary equipment with our computer systems. Therefore, if you don't need a joystick or printer or digital camera with the computer then you won't get one AND you won't be charged for it. That means you pay less than you would at shops that "bundle" systems.

Selling to the first time buyer is more expensive in terms of support calls and telephone help. But a company that sells computers to a broad section of buyers will expect every buyer to share an equal part of that support cost. It's a bit like insurance - If you are a careful driver why should you pay a higher premium to cover the boy racers? If you are an experienced computer user and don't need telephone help to teach you how to turn on the PC - then why should you pay for it? We provide you with support on what really matters rather than spending a lot of money having staff on phones teaching you how to use your computer.

Note: We install your copy of Windows at no charge when you buy a machine from us.

As with any business knowing the right people makes a big difference. The fact that you know about us means that you are going to be saving a packet on computer equipment.  Somebody else could be paying double for exactly the same thing. When buying equipment we not only keep a close watch on the market, but also on who's doing the best deals in this extremely volatile and very competitive business. Knowing the right people saves us thousands; which saving we pass on to you the customer.

Many companies claim to cut out the middleman. We, at Best Price Computers, actually do cut the middleman out. We buy components in bulk, test them ourselves, assemble them into computers ourselves and market them ourselves. We run our own quality tests, do our own RTB servicing, design our own advertisements and even maintain this website inhouse. At no stage are we paying commissions to middlemen to sell our PCs for us. By dealing with us directly you save on all those commissions.

Caution: It has come to our attention that some dealers in the market are buying our PCs & selling them on at a profit. At the prices we charge there is potential for a mark-up. These dealers are NOT authorised by us. If you've found this site bookmark it and buy directly. There's no better way to the best price and the best value, which is what Best Price Computers is all about.
