1.
Recovery disks do not have all the same files,
programs and utilities as the full Windows CD.
2.
They usually work by deleting all your programs
and files and setting the PC back to original
"factory" condition.
3.
They usually prevent you using that copy of
Windows on another PC, on even another hard disk
on the same PC.
4.
They can only be used on the PC they were supplied
with.
5.
If you ever lose or damage the CD you cannot
easily re-install Windows on your PC with a
standard Windows CD. You'll need to go back to
your PC manufacturer for another copy of the
recover CD which they may charge you upto £50 (or
more) for.
6.
They usually work off an "image" or
"mirror" on your hard disk i.e. some of
your hard disk space is "locked" and you
can't use it.
7.
Recovery CDs are cheaper for the manufacturer of
your PC but work out a lot more expensive for you
in the long run.
8.
Recovery CDs give manufacturer's telephone support
staff an easy way of restoring your PC to default
condition on the telephone, BUT it is usually at
the expense of you losing all your data.
9.
With a recovery CD you cannot do a custom
installation of Windows on your PC. You have to
settle for the PC manufacturer's default
installation, warts and all.
10.
If your PC manufacturer goes out of business or is
bought out by someone else then your PC becomes
virtually useless if you lose or damage your
recovery CD, as you may not be able to get another
one.
